T: A sentiment expressed multiple times by myself and Karissa while watching this movie: it’s actually good!
K: When this movie first came out we all looked upon it with scorn and thought Look at this Stupid Piece of Shit - 11 years later I am watching it cross continentally with Tom and loving it so much that we watched this AND the sequel in one night. Maybe our bar is extremely low but yes it’s actually good! Compared to most other mainstream comedies from this era Paul Blart has a refreshing lack of uncool/problematic BS. The script is not “good”, but you assume it’s going to be a lazily written nihilist void centered around a big guy falling down and instead you get something surprisingly earnest and empathetic. This is a movie for the fucking working class!!! I’m not saying an enemy of Paul Blart is an enemy of people, just give him a break. You don’t have to like Paul Blart. You don’t have to like anything.
